Who we are
Knowle West Media Centre (KWMC) is an independent organisation
and charity that came into existence in June 2002, having grown from
many creative projects over a period of eight years. Based in Knowle
West, we work with local people using video, photography, and multimedia,
exploring the many different ways media can be used to benefit the community.

Our values include:
- commitment to the cultural, social and economic regeneration
of Knowle West
- A foundation in the grassroots of the Knowle West communities
- A commitment to collaboration and partnerships with
a variety of government and voluntary organisations, educational
institutions, and the network
of media organisations in Bristol and the South West
- A proactive approach to inclusion and access
- A commitment to providing opportunities which enable
local people, individually or in groups, to explore their own identities
and both find
and express them in a unique voice
- A commitment to the artistic power of media, and support
for the work of media artists, in particular through support for
innovation and development
in socially engaged media practice
- High production values
- A commitment to learning as a guiding principle
in all our activity, whether in the development of skills which might
increase
a young person's
chances of employment or their entry into the creative industries,
or informally through including a wide range of people in the work
and activities
of the Centre
- A commitment to ongoing evaluation and monitoring.
Working in partnership with organisations, artists, businesses
and groups across the city, we develop concepts and projects for people
to express
their ideas, learn new skills, bring about change, explore issues
and
work collaboratively. |
